Is quality important?

Who knows?

The software development market is a strange place; every company claims to deliver high quality work and just about any consultant will tell you that quality is high on his/her value-list.

This is of course a bit contradictory to reality ... most development projects simply fail.  Well, they don't just 'simply fail', they fail miserably.

So we have two opposing statements.

Statement 1 (the consultant) reads : "We deliver quality work".  It is a statement that is very rarely backed up by proof or evidence.  We could denote this statement as 'promise'.

Statement 2 (science) reads : "Most development projects fail". Since this statement is supported by many empirical studies, we could denote this statement as 'reality'.

Now think about which of the 2 statement you believe ... 'promise' or 'reality'.

And then think about what you actually do when you purchase some kind of ICT service.  Have you ever asked for factual proof of quality?

At Item Solutions our project evaluations are available upon simple request.  We can turn the promise into reality ...
